Impromptu for cello & piano
Impromptu was written for Vicky Adams' 21st birthday (2002). It was conceived with a dance-like form in mind consisting of a slow prelude section followed by a dance on a similar theme. The end result was a ternary form piece in a romantic style which employs simple harmonies in the 'A' section and harmonic spice and rhythmic complexities in the faster 'B' section. The main theme resembles the theme from the Schumann piano concerto but no symbolic link should be made. Both the piano and cello parts are quite demanding but are fun to play. Enjoy!!
