Une
Autre Vie
This
piece was written for Hannah Baker (see dedication to Dream Tunnel)
and is in the style of a Chopin Nocturne although the parallel is not
always clear. I was inspired to write the piece by seeing Hannah again
after many years and hearing that she still plays the piano. The piece
is around Grade VII level, mainly owing to the key. As with most of
my more 'simple-sounding' music, the piece is littered with secret
codes and messages. The piece has now been compiled with a group of
small/simple pieces under the title Romantic Miniature for Piano being
the last piece in the set. The set ends as it began, 13 years later
with a dedication to Hannah.
The
piece was composed on the 7th June 2003 although many of the ideas
for the piece had existed in manuscript books for quite a while
(one - which became bb.67-68 - is dated 11/11/02). The recording on
this page was taken from the premiere of the piece at
St. Mary's Slough.
