SarabandeSarabande

From Celebration Suite for Louise Bunce

'Celebration Suite' is a suite of dance pieces written for Louise Bunce for various occasions. The set (which is currently incomplete) will eventually have 5-6 movements and will form the first set of pieces from the second book of 'Romantic Miniatures for Piano'.

So far, a Sarabande has been composed and the finale Gigue, which were both written for Louise's birthday on the 29/10/06. In addition, a Gavotte was written in 2007.

The Sarabande was started on the 29/9/06 and completed on the 4/10/06. The piece employs the standard sarabande rhythm with its triple metre, dotted rhythm and emphasis on the second beat of the bar. The Sarabande is in rounded binary form and would be ideal teaching material for someone learning the piano between Grades 5-6. The melody is arranged in such a way to strengthen the right hand and improve voicing. Note that the developed melody of bb9-16 has the main theme in the lower part of the right-hand with a descant above and that later (bb25-29) this writing is reversed with the secondary theme played by the the 4th and 5th fingers with a counter melody using the rest of the hand.
